Review

So many great poems here.

The standouts for me:

• the preacher: ruminates behind the sermon
• The Lovers of the Poor
• In Emmanuel’s Nightmare: Another Coming of Christ

Personally, I found that Brook’s work becomes more incisive and engaging with “The Bean Eaters,” though she herself disagrees with this assessment in the interview transcription included as an addendum to this collection.
